Museum is from 1978 part of Agrokomplex exhibition centre. Slovak Agricultural Museum became scientific-research and documentary centre of development of agriculture and follow-up processing in Slovakia. .
Museum’s mission is to document and collect documents on procurement of living from times of harvesting through era of purposive production of foodstuffs to the present. Besides technical and technological procedures of production of food products museum dedicates attention also to evolutional trends of processing of biological products into food, technical ingredients and products, it follows evolution of agricultural public education, school system, science, work and spiritual life of peasantry in Slovakia. .
Museum’s collection fund presents 26.178 exhibits - agricultural tools, machines, zoological, botanical and museum objects. Library contains more than 38.000 book and magazine units related to agriculture. Precious and unique is operation of narrow-gauge field steam railway. This railway was trasferred from surroundings of Želiezovce where rails from years 1981 - 1908 were situated. Today Nitra’s Field Railway operates three steam locomotives, the oldest U 35 901 from 1918, and one diesel-electric locomotive. There are four sightseeing compartments for personal transportation.
