Diocese Museum of Diocese of Nitra is situated in the centre of courtyard of the Nitra Castle. It is a first diocese museum in Slovakia. On 5 July 2007, on the holy day of Saints Cyril and Methodius its first part was opened after difficult preparation period - long-term exposition of literary relics closely connected with the beginnings of Christianity in our territory, it was named characteristically - The script tells its story. Museum is from 2008, when it was extended by treasury, designed as two parts. The second part of exposition is named Gems of St. Emmeram´s Cathedral, and there are exhibited mostly objects as liturgic instruments of cathedral, mainly ancient chalices and monstrances.

The most ancient handwritten book in the territory of Slovakia and whole ex-Hungary - Nitra Gospel Book is the evidence of Latin literature. This beautifully illuminated codex contains parchment films with excerpts from Gospels decorated with Carolingian minuscule, that were inserted in gross wooden boards. The front was in the 1st half of the 14th century decorated with gold-plated silver relief, belonging to the most precious Gothic metal reliefs in Slovakia. It presents crucifixion of Christ with figures of Virgin Mary and apostle John. In the bottom part of relief there is reliquary having a shape of two-barred cross pointing at Byzantine liturgic influence. The place of origin of this literary gem is probably scriptorium of Benedictine monastery in Hronský Beňadik and may be dated around 1083. (Source:  text and photo -
